The World Cup Vibe

Its pretty amazing how everyone is riding this wave of good patriotic Soccer vibe. We are proud to be South Africans. Everyone is smiling from ear to ear wherever we go. The people working at petrol stations, the ladies cashing at the tills in shopping centres, the farmers carrying their bakkies under their arms passing us. The flags are flying high and anything feels possible!!We are riding down the coast from Durban towards Port Edward where we’ll turn more inland into the Eastern Cape formerly known as the Transkei. We have cycled this stretch of coastline on our bicycles before and its evident to experience the change in transport. Although we are still open on the bikes things go past a bit faster. More people can relate to riding a motorcycle and more people are envious of us doing what we are doing. The conversations changed too, it doesn’t start with you must be crazy I would love to do it but luckily I have a motor to get me where I need to be....Funny. I sometimes wish that I could put everything that I have learnt over the last 6 years traveling on my bicycle, walking, canoeing and now riding bike into one sentence that will make people realize that its not the means to get there. Its the journey getting there.

The change in temperature...I find myself referring back to the temperatures all the time, but hey, its winter and freezing. Well, getting back to the temperature, I am wearing shorts and tshirts when I am not riding and I am loving the sun against my skin. Riding through the busy streets of Durban was fun but I am glad that we are now entering the smaller towns. Traffic lights, and ques of traffic with a dog on a bike can be nerve wrecking at times. We went to meet the people of Yamaha in Pinetown and WOW WOW WOW, like all the other people that we have met who work at Yamaha they were awesome. (A later posting on more of our meeting at Yamaha Head office)

Liani is starting to show signs of pain and fatigue. I don’t know whether I should feel sorry or whether I should help. Its strange, once I started to delf into my own self and realizing that my thoughts are having the biggest impact on my experiences I can only feel compassion but people need to find the space within themselve to feel the positive energy feeding their body. But still she is getting up and she is making space to feed herself with positive thoughts. She amazes me most the time.

The R102 takes us out Durban and we make our way towards the lower part of the South Coast. Its the annual sardine run and we get to hear about mother and baby whale that got caught in the shark nets. Apparently the shark board were suppose to lift the nets for the duration of the Sardine run but for some reason hasn’t done it. The baby whale some local fisherman got loose but the mother died. Its very real that people and animals and plants basically all of us die at some stage, but wouldn’t it be good to know for once that our self centred false senses are not the reason for this b ut nature it self....
